An Elizabeth Roxby was the proprietor of the boarding house at no.3 Dunstanburgh Terrace in 1911 and still in 1921, having previously been the housekeeper in charge of Callaly Castle near Alnwick.

Elizabeth Roxby nee Pratt married James Roxby in Alnwick in 1893 but he does not appear on the census records of this period, though their son James Pratt Roxby does, who was working as a office boy in a local brewery at the age of 16 years.

William Reid and family are recorded as living at 'Barnett House' (no.3 Dunstanburgh Terrace) two years later on the 1939 census, William being a motor engineer by trade.

The Sportsman Inn was originally two houses, Barnett and Dunstanburgh; before it was converted into a guesthouse around 1971. It became a pub in 1993, the landlady being a Judith Anderson.

EMBLETON Cricket Club had their annual presentation night and buffet at The Sportsman Inn on Saturday. Sixty-five people attended a very good evening and the awards were won by: Batting - Gary Davison; bowling - John Wilkin.
